Where's the science bit?

15 Jan 2005

SO, GORDON Henderson believes that the expansion of the Kent Science Park will benefit the people of Sittingbourne and will provide employment opportunities.

Let us be very clear about one thing. The science park is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a science park and there is little realistic prospect that it will become one.

The so-called Kent Science Park is a small-time business park owned by an international pension fund which has carefully selected the change of name and projected a new image in order to mislead us regarding its true purpose, which is to maximise investment return in the shortest possible time.

A few prominent landowners have also rubbed their hands at the prospect of a quick return and jumped on the bandwagon.

At the public meeting in September, it was estimated that three or four of them would scoop a £300million jackpot if this development package went ahead.

A nice little earner for the science park and the landowners, while Sittingbourne and the surrounding villages are saddled with the mess.

It’s nice to know where Gordon Henderson stands, as the election approaches.

John Bonney,
Rodmersham Green.
