Twice daily hell on quiet leafy lanes
15 Jan 2005
FOR THE most part, you might be forgiven for thinking Woodstock Road and Ruins Barn Road are quiet, leafy lanes out the back of Sittingbourne.Except, that is, between the hours of 8 and 9.30am and 4.30 and 6pm on weekdays. It is at these times that residents of both roads suffer from a combination of high speed and very bad driving, from
motorists oblivious to the 30mph limit residential area.
Almost all the offending vehicles have the same point of origin — the so-called science park and Woodstock Club.
These motorists don't care that they find themselves in a high speed chicane as they dart around residents who may have begun a three-point turn in a clear road. Nor do they stop when a resident needs to reverse into a space outside their own home. No, they force themselves past, causing the parking vehicle to have to slam on brakes while backing into a space to save having the corner of their car ripped off
May I please ask drivers who use Ruins Barn Road and Woodstock Road to slow down and think. Above all, if you come across a vehicle halfway through a perfectly legitimate manoeuvre, to stop and wait.
And to the authorities: why not send a speed trap up here during the above mentioned times. With 80 per cent of the cars travelling well over the 30mph limit, they'll make rich pickings for you. We are all being told to keep within the speed limits — this is one road where I have never seen any kind of enforcement.
