M-way link road is not the answer
WE LIVE in Tunstall and are very concerned about the proposed new A2/M2 link from near Bapchild, sweeping round past Rodmersham and merging with Ruins Barns Road (the Southern Relief Road) to join the M2.
Building such a road will not relieve traffic — it will just add more traffic to the countryside and more traffic on to an already congested two-lane motorway. Serious and realistic consideration of our rising traffic problems have to be addressed by other means than just building more roads, and destroying more green areas.
The solutions to traffic congestion may lie in our having fewer cars, a better, efficient, reliable public transport system and some sort of publicly run taxi system.
Proposals to build a "southern relief" road appear to be tied in with a massive housing expansion on the southern side of Sittingbourne.
The proposals deserve careful thought from everyone living in the area and acknowledgment of the potential problems for the
future. Where are the plans for the necessary infrastructure to accompany huge housing and road developments?
