What does the approval of the arrivals building mean for the future?
The car park was included within the Local Plan policy map boundary line as it is incidental to the use of the security fenced site - therefore this does not creates a precedent for development outside of the security fence.
The park still has to meet a number of conditions as laid out in the Swale Local Plan before they can even contemplate progressing any plans to build outside of the security fence.
We were however glad to see that the owners of the park have acknowledged that the volume of traffic to the park is sufficiently high as to be regarded a health and safety risk to visitors crossing the road to the present day security building.
One sympathises with the residents of Ruins Barn Road who have to endure the same dangerous traffic levels passing their homes every day. This at a time when employment levels at Kent Science Park are at their lowest point in the last four and a half years.
Regardless of any recent developments the Kent Science Park remains one of the most underutilised science parks in the UK in terms of occupancy per square foot of accommodation.
