The economic strategy consultation farce.

26 Mar 2006

Public representations brushed aside just 24 hours after the consultation period ends as Swale Borough Council agrees to push through their Economic Development Strategy unchanged.

This is all the more remarkable given that Swale Borough Council neglected to properly consult the public and parish councils properly in the first instance and had to offer a second consultation exercise.

They could have barely had the time to read all the representations in that time, let alone given them due consideration and evaluated their arguments in any sensible and constructive manner.

I find this most disappointing and its situations such as this that make you question whether the councillors that you and I have elected are actually there to represent the views of their ward or those of their own. I can only suggest that when the elections come round every May as they do in Swale that you act with your vote.
