Protest march a great success

The Five Parishes Opposition Group claimed a huge victory today when hundreds of residents from all over Swale took to the streets to join their protest march against the proposals put forward by the Kent Science Park which would see hundreds are acres of countryside needlessly destroyed.

Monique Bonney chair of FPOG who gave interviews to BBC Radio Kent and Meridian before commencing the march said “The turn out was fantastic and I want to thank everyone who came along to support us. Even though we have been collecting signatures for a while now, people were still queuing up to sign the petition before the march started and I think we collected another 120 or so in a just a few minutes.”

“We will continue to collect further signatures for as long as people want to support us and the ones we collected today will be added to the copy of the petition we are taking to 10 Downing Street on Thursday.”

When the march concluded at the bottom of the high street, the five parish representatives handed over a copy of the petition containing 3,041 signatures to Swale Borough Council leader Andrew Bowles.

Andy Hudson vice chairman of FPOG said “We were thrilled to see so many people turn up and support us, we didn’t really know quite how many people would turn out and this makes all the hard work worth while. Organising an event like this requires an enormous amount of energy and I’d like to thank the dedicated team of people that make up FPOG who all worked very hard for this day. ”

FPOG also managed to sell a number of the signs used in the protest march and will be selling signs for people to put in their front gardens at some point in the very near future.
