Kent Science Park ISP goes bust
Kent Science Park ISP Telebria which supplied broadband and telephony connectivity for both domestic and business customers went into receivership owing over £100,000. This has created immense problems for many customers whom were given just a few hours notice.
Therefore I was particularly outraged on Friday when I read the comments from Dr John Dodd, director of Sittingbourne Enterprise Hub in the Kent Messenger.
He said “I’m sure Jim will bounce back with another idea. That’s what we should be encouraging, not being too hard on people for whom it doesn’t work.”
Perhaps he should spare a thought for those who lost their jobs, the suppliers, two of which were also KSP tenants, and most of all the customers left high and dry with no internet connectivity or telephone service.
The repercussions of this event were felt throughout Kent and beyond, even the Ashford Gateway Project was affected.
Liquidator Steve Tancock of Smith & Williamson went on to say that “Subscribers had not been seriously affected, with other providers taking over their broadband service.”
Well is not true for customers in Swale and there was no simple transfer of services between suppliers, as the other company came on board after the collapse.
I am surprised at the positive spin the Kent Messenger places on the demise of a Kent Science Park company when conversely it’s all shock and horror when another Swale business such as the paper mill closes.
