Park plans face final decision on development

A DECISION on whether to go ahead with building work that could affect the lives of Tunstall residents will be made tomorrow (Thursday).

Plans for two new buildings and 99 parking spaces at Kent Science Park have been met with criticism from residents of Ruins Barn Road.

The road is used by motorists travelling to the site and homeowners fear the resulting extra jobs will cause a traffic problem in the area.

Last month an appeal by for interactive speed signs was turned down by Kent County Council's highways advisory board. Herne and Sturry councillor Alan Marsh said the road didn't warrant any "special measures" and that the residents' perception of speed was misconceived.

KCC has since said it has not made a definite decision about traffic problems in the road.

Senior transport manager Michael Sammut said: "KCC requires significantly more information than has been provided to establish the true extent of the problems likely to be generated by the development."

The issue will be debated at a planning committee meeting at Swale House, Sittingbourne, at 7pm tomorrow. Members of the public are welcome to listen to the debate.
