Gateway's plans stay as chief goes

SITTINGBOURNE'S regeneration remains on track despite the sudden departure of Thames Gateway Delivery Unit chief executive, Judith Armitt, according to Swale Forward.

Its programme manager, Ross Gill, said: "The Thames Gateway has been a national priority for regeneration for many years and it will continue to be so. We're committed to delivering our key local priorities.

"The current reports do not change our regeneration strategy for Swale, which the Government has backed with a further funding allocation of £13.5 mil-lion between 2008 and 2011.

"This will be focused on taking forward our long-term regeneration plans at Queenborough and Rushenden and at Sitting-bourne, including the delivery of Rushenden Link Road and the Sittingbourne Northern Relief Road."

In May, the national audit office said house-building within the project area needed to more than double to meet its targets.

Ms Armitt, was appointed in November. She had supervised the drafting of the £9 billion Thames Gateway plan.

At the time of going to press, no statement was available detailing why Ms Armitt had left.
