Anger as park plans go public

26 Jul 2006

THE OPPOSITION group fighting huge plans for housing, a new link road and an extended Kent Science Park has been inundated with calls from concerned residents.

The Five Parish opposition group representing Tunstall, Bredgar, Milstead, Rodmersham and Bapchild, launched a campaign opposing the scheme.
Chairman of the group Andy Hudson said: "1 know when the science park is putting on a roadshow, because my phone doesn't stop ringing and I'm swamped with e-mails wanting to know how they can object to the scheme.

"It's been very interesting that people from all over Sittingboume have taken offence with the proposals. Even we didn't expect that. However, it's good to know that the wider population in Sittingbourne have realised just how much it will impact them too." Mr Hudson urged people to fill in the science park's questionnaire, despite not being happy with its contents.

A public exhibition of the park's proposals on display at The Forum shopping centre has generated a large number of visitors and led to often heated debates between residents and science park officials. One visitor, who did not want to be named, criticised the exhibition's setting in The Forum, because it was in a unit rather than a more obvious position.

The exhibition was due to be moved to the Woodstock Club opposite the science park from Monday until Friday, August 4.
