Community Concerns Over Environmental Impact and Infrastructure Strain
Our community is already dealing with limited resources and infrastructure. The scale of this development would overwhelm Sittingbourne, creating unsustainable demands on our services, our roads, and our environment. In Sittingbourne a new secondary school should have been built 7 years ago yet a developer/housebuilder (Persimmon) has sat on this and prevented it being brought forward. In Sittingbourne not one single extra doctors surgery has been built in fact we have less GP’s than we previously had with more residents. We have one of the worst GP ratios in the country and yet the Government expects Swale to pile thousands more houses into the area.
In Swale the are over 7000 planning permissions granted and over 1,700 units allocated in the 2017 Local Plan that have not come forward – in total more than 8,700 units are effectively land banked but not built out. Some by the same landowners behind this scheme.
