"To put the record straight, the owners of Kent Science Park have no wish to develop homes in the vicinity of the science park"
Swale Borough Council
Andrew Bowles Leader of Swale Borough Council and Swale Forward
Believes that the Kent Science Park is the only way to bring high quality jobs to Swale. Behind the drive for an A2/M2 link road and large scale expansion of the park, not bothered about the science angle. Previously against the housing to fund the road, has now come clean on the premise that it is the only way to make housing affordable. In his term as leader housing has become 50% less affordable than when he started.
Pete RaineDirector of Regeneration
As a principle player behind the Wye Science Park scandal which involved, KCC, Ashford Borough Council, the Government Office for the South East (GOSE), South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), and Locate in Kent, Mr Raine will be forever associated with a scheme that collapsed under the weight of its own deceit.
Long time support of the Kent Science Park and previously headed up Locate in Kent a quango funded by the Kent Science Park
Alan Willicombe Conservative Swale Cllr for Tunstall. Previously at the centre of a police investigation into alleged election fraud.
Actually turned up at a meeting armed with a letter from Swale BC's legal department explaining why he can't talk to us. Hides behind the fact that he is on the planning committee and was first Councillor to speak in favour of 4ha expansion.
Don Jordan Ex Conservative Swale Cllr who lost his seat to Monique Bonney in the previous elections.
Hidden behind a wall of officaldom because it might effect his vote, but on what no one knows. Was very supportive of the A2/M2 link because its been talked about for 15 years, but does that make it a good idea?
Kent County Council
Paul Carter Leader of KCC
Appears to fully support the Kent Science Park and has lobbied the Highways Agency on their behalf.
Alex King Deputy Leader of KCC
Publicaly stated his support for the Kent Science Park but isn't interested in it being a centre for science, just wants to create another Kings Hill business park in Swale. This view was also supported by Andrew Bowles.
Keith Ferrin KCC Councillor for Swale West
Represents all five parishes as our KCC cllr and has been very supportive. Changed his opinion of the Kent Science Park quite early on and has publicly said that he is against all aspects of the proposals.
Sittingbourne and Sheppey MP
Gordon Henderson MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey
Currently does not support an expansion of the park beyond its security fence and also against the 5,000 housing, but does support the idea of an A2/M2 link road, albeit not on the route as proposed by the Kent Science Park.
Derek Wyatt Ex MP for Sittingbourne & Sheppey
Has been very supportive and is against all aspects of the proposals by the Kent Science Park. Recently called the proposals 'bonkers'
Kent Science Park
Jame Speck Current Site Director, Kent Science Park
Currently trying to persuade us that the M2/A2 link road and 5,000 houses are not part of their plans. Perhaps not but an essential byproduct nethertheless due to Government policy and a future commitment should the Council opt in favour of the expansion.
Nick Sharp Ex Site Director, Kent Science Park
To his credit he has always said exactly what the Kent Science Park want, ok we might disagree on what they are offering in return but he hasn't mislead the public on the housing, road and expansion plans in the way that Swale Borough Council and KCC have. Has tried to move away from the 'Science' tag now favouring words such as technology and knowledge.
Andrew Bull LaSalle Investment Management
Believes that the Kent Science Park are the saviour for Sittingbourne. We love his comment about creating a "distinct ‘green divide’ between Sittingbourne and Bapchild to ensure the village’s independence". Thats presumably after they've built a couple of thousand houses to give us a sense of community spirit.
The Land Owners
Kevin Attwood Kent chairman of the National Farmers Union who owns farm land adjacent to the Kent Science Park. Advises Swale Borough Council on rural matters. Previously behind the controversial Medway Magna project, which included proposals for 9,200 homes on capstone valley. Leased land around Wye which was also a proposed site for a Science Park.
Oliver Doubleday Owns most of the land associated with the Kent Science Park housing. Also behind the controversial Stones Farm development in Bapchild, and has future aspirations for a massive haulage depot at Hempstead Farm connected to the Northern Relief Road.
Government Quangos and Others
Greg Macdonald Ex Programme Director, Swale Forward
Swale Forward has promoted the enlarged science park and A2/M2 link road on the back of employment opportunities that are very unlikely to ever be met.
Paul Wookey Chief Executive, Locate in Kent
Major supporter of the Kent Science Park who was responsible for producing so-called independent evidence on the number of employees for the Swale Local Plan public inquiry. When the evidence was challenged they were not able to support it due to its highly confidential nature. Draw your own conlusions.
